Diz a verdade, serás despedido

David Nutt, o presidente do conselho antidrogas do governo britânico, está “extremamente desiludido” após ter sido demitido por afirmar que a Cannabis, o ecstasy e o LSD são menos perigosos que o álcool e os cigarros.

Numa palestra e num documento informativo para o centro de estudos criminais e judiciais da universidade de King's College, em Londres, o professor Nutt atacou o que considera ser a separação “artificial” do álcool e do tabaco de outras drogas (ilegais).

Todas as drogas, incluindo o álcool e o tabaco, deveriam ser listadas num índice de danos, afirmou ele, com o álcool em quinto lugar a seguir à cocaína, à heroína, aos barbituratos e à metadona. O tabaco devia estar em nono lugar, à frente da Cannabis, do LSD e do ecstasy, acrescentou o professor.

"Acho que temos de aceitar que os jovens gostam de experimentar – com drogas e outras actividades potencialmente perigosas – e que o que devíamos fazer era protegê-los dos perigos nesta fase da vida. Por isso, temos de fornecer-lhes informação mais precisa e credível. Se acham que asssustar os jovens vai evitar o consumo de drogas, estão provavelmente enganados”.

O professor afirmou que a Cannabis não é uma droga “assim tão prejudicial” e repetiu o seu aviso aos pais sobre o impacto do álcool nos adolescentes: “Os meus filhos correm muito mais o risco de morrerem ou de serem gravemente feridos devido ao uso do álcool do que de qualquer dessas outras drogas. A maior preocupação dos pais deveria ser evitarem o consumo excessivo de álcool por parte dos filhos, pois este pode matá-los, causar acidentes de automóvel, lutas, violações e outros perigos para eles e para outros de que mais tarde se arrependerão. A minha opinão é que se queremos reduzir os danos das drogas à sociedade, o álcool é presentemente a droga alvo e todos os pais deveriam estar cientes disso”.

ACTUALIZAÇÃO: Dois membros do conselho antidrogas do governo britâncio demitiram-se hoje como protesto ao tratamento do professor David Nutt por parte do ministro do interior, Alan Johnson. Outro membro disse ao jornal The Guardian que os peritos estão a planear uma “acção colectiva” contra Johnson, acrescentando: "Estamos todos desiludios e a pôr em causa os nossos cargos”.

What the hell happened to freedom of speech eh? Even if it wasn't true (which it is)... people should still be entitled to their own opinions!

Well, a government adviser is supposed to advise about a matter he knows better than the government. Now we know he was only there to give some kind of credibility to government absurd point of view. We thought so, but now we are really sure.

There is something behind the scenes..i'm telling you. Governments definitly know the consequenes of drugs but still they battle them. It isnt about fear of losing the citizens to drugs anymore, it's about something more..

Btw. This ranking was published first time in the medicine journal "The Lancet" in March 2007.

So why are they doing this shit now?

Did the government accidentally read it in a newspaper?

Its really too bad that the people wont show any sign of disagreement in the public with this pest of corruption. What did the government make out of us...

We are continually getting our feet pissed and letting them dry off. It stinks.

Scientific reslults are inferior when the perpetuation of the status quo e.g. the capitalist system is concerned.
Alcohol, nicotine and caffeïne are the choice drugs for the current system, simple as that. These substances are the engine of capitalism/ruthlessly squeezing out of the weak.

for public awareness this was actually a good case, even the Sun opened with an enormous frontpage caption "Advisor sacked about telling the truth about drugs" I think this did the case of public awareness on drugs an enormous favour

Interesting article... The government always hide the truth from people! I think that everyone should know about the danger of drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco compared to the danger of smoking that sweet sensimilla, weed smokers are always seen as "junkies" by the community and drunk guys not! Is time for this nation to LEGALIZE MARIJUANA!
